Quinnebaugh Meadows
Quinnebaugh Meadows
“Quinnebaugh Meadows” is a 12”x12” Encaustic (pigmented beeswax) painting on birch panel by American artist Justin Selway. This abstract fire scene has charcoal white and teal colors in the background with a gold Shellac burn texture in the foreground.
As a young man I was a firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service in Montana. Quinnebaugh Meadows outside of RedLodge MT was one of the first big fires I was called on. This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Here I got to see first hand the porewfull forces of nature changing the landscape right in front of me. Many Crews of talented hard working people battled the blazes to preserve as much of this beauty as possible. This painting is of the old rock slides on the steep mountain sides that became unstable when the vegetation that once covered it had burned away. Painting is signed and titled by artist on the back.
